Cost: TBA Many do not fully understand what Sensory Integration (SI) is and how it affects a child’s social and emotional well-being. We would like to invite you to learn more about SI and the warning signs that often accompany the disorder.
Part I of the workshop is an informative presentation on the theory behind SI and the role of occupational therapy. The first section or part I is what we refer to as the classroom portion of the workshop. Participants will gain an understanding of the disorder by learning the theoretical aspects of SI. From who first diagnosed the disorder to what physiological processes we believe cause the disorder. In addition how instrumental OT has been in bringing this disorder to the forefront.
Part II of the workshop is often considered the interactive section of the workshop. Participants get a hands-on learning experience of how sensory input affects your nervous system and how different treatment approaches work.
Participants at the end will come away with a clear understanding of SI. In addition they will learn how it effects children in different environments, how to recognize the warning signs and techniques that can be implemented in the home and at school.
Please note that our SI workshop is intended to be an introduction to SI and therapists seeking certification in SI need to contact SII or WPS.

Many are familiar with the Wilbarger Brushing Program, but are unsure about its affects upon sensory defensive children. This workshop will help to clarify these questions and explain the tremendous benefits of the program. The goal of this workshop is to allow each participant to learn the brushing techniques, as well as how to develop and implement a sensory diet at home and at school. The seminar will be followed by a question and answer period to address any lingering questions that a participant may have.

The How Does Your Engine Run program consists of lessons and fun activities that help children (and adults) learn to recognize, monitor and change their level of alertness appropriate to a given situation. The goal of this workshop is to teach its participants techniques that can be applied in order to gain a greater sense of self-awareness. Consider a child sitting in a classroom or an adult at their place of employment. In either of these scenarios if the person has low sense of self-awareness they can be viewed as a negative or distracting influence. This can give a child or an adult a poor self-image, and unfairly label them as a troublemaker when it is something that can easily be treated. This workshop can be a great aide because it will teach the techniques that raise ones level of awareness that make it easier for a person to respond to a daily interactions with others. This will lead to improved confidence, self-esteem and a feeling of empowerment knowing that by recognizing their level of alertness they are in control.

Participants will learn how games, exercise, and adaptive equipment can help prepare a child for handwriting and what approaches to handwriting benefit developmentally delayed individuals.
Before completion of the workshop each individual will learn how to analyze an activity and determine how the activity enhances handwriting. By discussing the normal developmental sequence of pencil grip one will learn how to recognize when a child displays a dysfunctional one.
Therapeutic programs of Edu Kinesthetic by Paul E. Dennison, PhD. and Loops and Groups by Mary Benbow will be introduced. These handwriting programs each give their own perspective as to the best method for assisting children with handwriting difficulties. However, the value of these techniques when teaching children how to write is remarkable.
The workshop is designed to answer both general and more specific questions, and we encourage those who attend to be active participants.

This workshop looks at the three areas occupational therapy provides services in school systems: positioning, visual perception and fine motor. The workshop assists participants in identifying problems in all three areas and gives practical suggestions for remediation. Each participant can experience how deficits in one or more of these areas can impact learning in the classroom. Participants will learn practical solutions that can be implemented on a daily basis. top
